Scope of Services
What Tide & Timber takes on, what it doesn’t, and how the line gets drawn.
Last updated September 25, 2026.
Services are accepted on a project-by-project basis and are limited to work within Tide & Timber's permitted and insured scope. Specialized or permit-required work is referred to an appropriately licensed professional.
What Tide & Timber does
Tide & Timber specializes in the smaller jobs: household repairs and routine maintenance, small fixture and hardware replacements, furniture assembly, mounting and small installations, and light, routine boat maintenance and upkeep. The full lists are on the home services and boat maintenance pages.
What Tide & Timber is not
Tide & Timber is a handyman service, not a full-service electrical, plumbing, structural or marine contractor. Work that requires a specialty trade, a building permit, or a specific licence is outside its scope. That includes, for example, new electrical circuits or panel work, plumbing beyond minor fixture maintenance, structural changes, roofing, and specialized marine mechanical, electrical, structural or rigging work.
When a project needs that kind of work, Dave will tell you so plainly and, where he can, point you toward an appropriately licensed professional. Knowing when a project requires a specialist is part of the Tide & Timber standard, not an exception to it.
Project by project
Every request is looked at on its own. Sending a description and photos through the consultation form does not book a job; it starts a conversation about whether the project is a good fit, what it would take, and when. Nothing is agreed until you and Dave have agreed it.
General information, not advice for your situation
The service descriptions on this site explain what a typical job involves. They cannot account for the condition of your particular home or boat, and they are not a substitute for an on-site look. Building codes, permit requirements and licensing rules vary and change; where they apply, they apply regardless of anything written here.
Accessibility
This website was built with accessibility in mind: semantic structure, keyboard support, visible focus, descriptive alternative text and attention to color contrast. That is a commitment to ongoing effort, not a claim of certification or of full conformance with any particular standard. If you hit a barrier anywhere on this site, please tell Dave. It will be treated as a real problem worth fixing.
