The small print
Privacy Policy
A short, plain-language explanation of what this website collects, why, and what happens to it.
Last updated September 25, 2026.
The short version: this website has no accounts, no advertising and no tracking or analytics. The only information collected is what you choose to put into the consultation request form, and it is used for one thing: so Dave can get back to you about your project.
Who this policy is from
This website is operated by Dave Stephens, owner of Tide & Timber Handyman Services (Santa Cruz County, California, United States). In this policy, “we” and “Dave” mean the same thing.
What we collect
Information you send us
When you submit the consultation request form, we receive whatever you put in it:
- Your name, phone number and email address
- The location or neighborhood of the project, if you provide it
- Whether it is a home or boat project, and your description of what you need
- Your preferred timeframe and preferred way to be contacted
- Any photos you choose to upload
- Your acknowledgment that you have read this policy
Photos are for understanding the project. Please avoid uploading images that show people, documents, or anything else you would not want in an email.
Information collected automatically
This website does not use analytics software, advertising networks or tracking cookies. It does not build a profile of you or follow you across other websites.
Like every website, the hosting provider that serves these pages keeps standard technical logs (for example IP addresses and browser type) for security and reliability. Those logs are held by the hosting provider under their own policy, and we do not use them to identify individual visitors. The form handler records the time a submission was sent and the network address it came from, purely to filter out automated spam.
Cookies and local storage
This website does not set any cookies of its own. It remembers two preferences in your own browser only: whether you have already seen the opening screen this session, and your light or dark appearance choice if you set one. Neither is sent to us.
How we use it
- To read and reply to your request
- To assess whether the project is a good fit and to plan a visit
- To keep a record of customer and prospective-customer correspondence
We do not sell, rent or trade your information. We do not add you to a mailing list, and there is no newsletter to be added to.
Who else is involved
A small number of service providers help this website function. Each of them handles data under their own privacy policy:
- The hosting provider. Serves these pages and delivers form submissions, as email, to Dave.
- The email provider. Form submissions arrive in Dave’s business email account, so they are stored there like any other email.
We may also disclose information where we are legally required to do so.
How long we keep it
Consultation requests are kept for as long as they are useful for correspondence and ordinary business records, and are deleted when they no longer are. You can ask us to delete your request sooner.
Your choices
You can ask us to:
- Tell you what information from you we hold
- Correct anything that is wrong
- Delete your request, photos and contact details
- Stop contacting you
California residents have specific rights under state privacy law, including the right to know what personal information is collected and to request its deletion. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are used in California law. To make a request, just ask. We will not treat you differently for doing so.
Children
This website is intended for homeowners, renters and boat owners arranging work. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Security
This website is served over an encrypted connection, and form submissions, including photos, are transmitted encrypted. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so please use good judgment about what you send through any web form.
Changes to this policy
If what this website collects ever changes, for example if online booking or analytics is added, this policy will be updated and the date at the top will change.

This policy is written in plain language to describe how this specific website works. It is not legal advice, and it has not been reviewed by an attorney. Dave should have it reviewed before relying on it, and it must be updated whenever the website starts collecting anything new.
